If you are planning to attend FSU:
You should decide how you are going to meet the FSU multicultural
requirement before taking a general education social science class.
This is particularly important if you are majoring in a field that
has no other social science requirements.
Info on FSU's multicultural requirement
The vast majority of the students in my classes are planning to be engineers, computer scientists, or major in one of the natural sciences. Because these students need to take many other classes for their major, my first emphasis here is on how to meet this requirement with the minimum number of credits. I would add, however, that there are several classes (particularly those in the multicultural list) that I would consider as an additional elective if time allowed.
Students planning to major in business or one of the social sciences will have to take many social science courses, so they should be careful to take only ones that are required for their major.
Option 0:
Take the national government course, POS1041,
because it is required for your planned major.
This is a safe option if you are presently undecided.
Option 1:
Take a political science class that meets both the social
science and "instruction in the constitution" requirement.
The choices are
POS1041 (national government),
POS1112 (state government), or
POS2001 (introduction to political science).
This is perfect if you are not going to FSU.
You should also follow this option if you plan to meet the multicultural requirement by following the "group A - group B" humanities option or taking an elective course. Follow this link to some multicultural course info to see what those options might be.
Option 2:
Take a course that meets FSU's multicultural requirement
(see list below) and take the 1 credit political science
class POS1601 (foundations of the US Constitution).
