Week 9
Section 27.4, inductance, and Section 27.5, LR circuits; Review Section 27.3, plus Section 28.1 to introduce alternating current.
Fri 3/5 (or Thurs night 3/4): is devoted to exam 3.
Have a safe spring break,
and don't forget everything you have learned so far this semester!
Week 10
Mon 3/15: Sections 28.1 and 28.2, including LR lab demo if needed.
Rest of Week 10: Sections 28.2 through 28.4, including additional demos.
A large scale example of a low-pass filter like what is covered in Section 28.6 (pp 501-502) of our book is the Bonneville Power Administration Celilio Converter Station. This is a huge AC to DC converter (or vice versa) that operates at up to 1000 kV, handling up to 3100 MW (i.e. carrying currents up to 3100 A). The converters use either tubes or thyristors (solid state diode-like devices) followed by large capacitors and inductors to smooth out the ripple.
Week 11
Sections 28.4 through 28.6; review what we know of Maxwell's Equations in Section 29.1.
Rest of Week 11: Start material from unit 5 (Sections 29.2 and 29.3, Ampere's Law revisited, plus Section 29.4).
Week 12
Mon 3/29: Exam 4, sections 27.3 thru 29.1? covered by HW-17 thru HW-21?.
